My trip to Sparta School
In March of this year a good friend of mine asked me to come and
speak to her 4th and 5th grade students. They were very interested in
writing and the range of questions they had seemed well beyond their
years.
My friend, Katie Richter, had her students write a list of questions, such
as, how long does it take to write a book? Is it hard to get a publisher?
What do you have to do to get your book ready to print?
I was met at the door and escorted to the classroom, wow, did I feel
honored by that. Usually her classes consist of fewer students but
today we were joined by several other students and teachers. I
answered questions for over an hour!
When we were done some of the students had me sign postcards I
brought for them and they made up their own autograph books. I was
better than a book signing! :)
Katie even announced my trip on the outside Marquee sign.
I just want to say, thank you Katie and students. I felt truly honored that
day.

June 2, 2010

I was invited back to Sparta school. The students in Katie Richter's
class made up their own stories and asked if I could help them put
together in a book.
Each of her 4th and 5th graders wrote a story and we copied them
out and put them together in a chapbook. Some had drawing and
some had pictures but as I put them together I began reading the
stories. What a collection it turned out to be.
It was a busy and fun day and the students were very proud of their
"books"
Thank you Katie for inviting me back! It was fun and very
entertaining!
